Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are a type of molar found at the very back of your mouth. They usually appear in your late teens or early twenties. Their only function is to help chew food, so that it can be easily swallowed and digested. They are not essential however,  can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for some people.

Reasons for wisdom teeth removal:

Due to the shape of your mouth

The wisdom teeth are crowding other molars. Wisdom teeth are no longer essential teeth for chewing and it is easier to remove them than other molars.

The wisdom teeth are growing crooked or are misaligned

If this happens there is a high chance they will negatively affect the teeth around them as they grow.

The wisdom teeth have become impacted

Impacted wisdom teeth occur when the teeth are unable to break through the gum line. The gum line is blocked by an existing molar and the result is discomfort or severe pain in the affected area. If an impacted wisdom tooth is not removed and it breaks through the gum line on its own, it can cause infection and damage to the gum, jaw line or other teeth.

As an Advanced General Dentist, Dr. Goodwin has received additional training in wisdom tooth removal. He can also offer IV sedation for wisdom tooth extractions if required.
